The Security of Mobile Devices

25.06.2014

As users increasingly rely on their mobile devices, mobile security has become a major concern. The lack of security of mobile devices opens a window for cybercriminals to access and exploit stored and exchanged sensitive data.

They can damage the device or misuse non-protected information contained into it, sent out through communication vectors or simply used in mobile activities such as trade or banking operations for instance. Although mobile devices generally facilitate users’ daily life, they also engender new threats.
The eSRT has organised a Conference on the Security of Mobile Devices addressing two major issues of mobile security in two different panels: Mobile Banking - Securing Users’ Sensitive Data and Mobile Security by Design - Securing the Set-Up.

The event discussed the work of Europol & the European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) on cybercrime in mobile devices, the necessity to reach zero fraud in eBanking and to elaborate close partnerships between the IT Industry, Government, Regulators and Banks; the state of play of the current legislation, privacy and data protection in mobile banking; and also solutions for securing the design and operational systems of mobile devices.
